Malnutrition (CMAM) Programme (Success Story)

Moving towards a Healthy Life

Shamshad Bibi is a poor inhabitant of village Chakama, one of the remotest areas in district Huttian Bala. Her husband is a daily wage laborer, having limited income to feed and maintain his family healthy. Shamshad Bibi was registered under Community Nutrition Program in BHU Chakhama during the month of September 2013 as malnourished pregnant woman. At the time of registration, she was found in the worst condition of health looking very weak and faint with 19 cm MUAC.

“I have four children. I often feel myself helpless to feed my children properly because my family lacks resources and has not sustainable source of income. As a mother, I always remain more concerned about my children health rather than about my own health” Shamshad Bibi told the AJKRSP field team at the occasion when she was first time going to be registered under CNP project.

She was provided nutritious food (Wheat Soya Blend & Vegetable Oil) during month of September 2013 and was educated about the best usage of the distributed food as well as about good basic health practices.
After one month at her second visit to the BHU, she was examined and she found in a better position. Her paleness was substantially reduced. And now she has an improvement of 0.3 cm in her MUAC.

Shamshad Bibi articulated “I use the food regularly and it has amazingly put impacts on my health. Before this, I was not able to even perform routine domestic functions like washing clothes and cleaning house etc. And now I feel quit better and all exhaustion and tiredness has gone away. I am very happy because now I can take care of my children and husband with better health”.
